Centaury
Centaurium umbellatum
Yes, sure, no problem. I am happy to help. I like being able to help out whenever needed, no matter how tired I am. Once I have picked up their kids and mine from school, I will nip over to an elderly friend’s place and do a bit of cleaning for them. (They asked so nicely I couldn’t say “no.”) After that, I will make supper for everyone, take the kids to sports practice, and then take everyone home again.
Of course the kids can stay over, no problem. You are busy, and I would love to take your dog for a walk and of course he can stay over too. It’ll be fun. Oh no, it’s no trouble at all. I must admit by the end of the day after being the Good Samaritan I feel absolutely exhausted, and I never get any time to myself.
Now that I have had some Centaury and had time to think, I suppose that people were beginning to take advantage of my good nature. But no more. Today I am going to do what I want to do! It’s time to draw the line and only help when absolutely necessary. In fact, I am going to the spa so I can be pampered for a change.
Centaury is an attractive plant with small, rose-pink, star-like flowers. The plant seems a bit top-heavy with a mass of flowers at the top of the stem, as though it is dressed to impress. The second part of the Latin name, umbellatum, makes me think that perhaps the flowers at the top of the stem act as an umbrella, keeping everyone dry at their own expense.
